Cruising the Chesapeake just got a bit easier for non-boat owners. The Moorings newest charter destination is going to be in Annapolis, MD for bareboat sailing, power and skippered charters on the Chesapeake Bay. The fleet will include a range of monohulls built by Beneteau and catamarans from Robertson & Caine.

A world-renowned boating destination, the Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States, spanning approximately 200 miles long from the Susquehanna River in the North to the Atlantic Ocean in the South. This area offers fantastic cruising conditions with consistent southwesterly winds averaging from 5-20 knots, as well as a balanced mix of sights ashore including the Bay’s more modernized, bustling east coast cities like Baltimore and the west coast’s quaint, old-fashioned fishing and crabbing towns with wonderful maritime heritage.

The Moorings Annapolis is the company’s first location on the Eastern seaboard, which is great because the Chesapeake Bay is literally the ‘backyard’ for many sailors. Here, guests can charter for as little as two days or as long as they’d like to enjoy a leisurely weekend getaway while still experiencing the same world-class customer service and meticulously maintained yachts that are the hallmark of a Moorings vacation.

The Moorings will offer a fleet mix of monohulls and catamarans for sailing charters.  Monohulls available for charter include the Moorings 40.3 (3-cabin/2-head) and Moorings 42CC (4-cabin/2-head), which features a center cockpit with offset helm position that opens up the cockpit space, allowing for improved sail ability and an aft deck. The new Moorings 3900 sailing catamaran and the Moorings 393 Powercat will also join the Annapolis fleet, both featuring 3-cabins and 2-heads, including a spacious master suite in the starboard hull, generator and air-conditioning.

For those that need to stretch their legs after a long period of sailing, did you know there are over five miles of intertwining hiking trails at the Eastern end of North Sound alone.

Guy’s Trail, named for the Bitter End’s resident bushwacker and primo photographer, is a 1.5-mile (approximately 1 hour) tour that starts at the Northeast end of the Bitter End property (see view from trail, taken a few weeks ago when North Sound was a busier), casually climbs the 455-foot hill behind Bitter End, traverses North to South, and then descends near the pool at Bitter End. Or if one chooses to, continues to connect with trails to Deep Bay, and on up the 630-foot “Great Hill.”

Its great exercise and great fun for all aboard, so strap on some sturdy treads, pick up a trail guide at BEYC’s Activities Center, grab a sports drink at the Emporium and “Hike-On.” Afterwards, visit the Bitter End’s Crawl Pub for a refreshing beverage, or simply lounge on the beach.

For those whose idea of exercise is lifting Caribs & Painkillers and watching the Big Game, the Bitter End’s Crawl Pub is the place to be. Come see the open air projection “Pub-Vision Big Screen at the Bitter End”. There’s no better place to view major sporting events than at the Bitter End’s Crawl Pub.
