Going Green While You Travel In the Deep Blue

Helping the sea and the surrounding atmosphere stay clean in order to preserve marine life is an importing thing to do when you plan a sailing vacation. This might require you to hire a boat from an eco-friendly company and sometimes play your part, where needed.

Following are a few recommended practices that will make sure that you are not destroying the sea you love.

Reducing Plastic Waste

We all know that plastic waste is not only toxic for human beings but also for marine life. Each year, more than 100,000 marine mammals die partly because of plastic waste dumped into the sea. It is important that while you are traveling on your charter yacht that you use desalinated water and distribute it in refillable bottles, rather than using bottled water each time you feel thirsty. Make sure that the charter yacht you take for your next sailing vacation has signed up to reduce the use of plastic waste in order to cut down garbage accumulation during your trip.

Lowering CO2 Emissions or Buying Carbon Credits

The best way to avoid polluting the sea is to charter a sailboat for your sailing vacation. This is because a sailboat charter uses wind energy to take you from one place to another rather than any kind of fuel. When using a motor on a yacht, carbon dioxide is emitted which pollutes the air. Although one motor yacht might produce a very small amount of carbon dioxide, when the ocean is filled with such yachts, it can pose a real threat to the sea as well as the marine life. If you must use a motor yacht, you can buy ‘carbon credits’ to offset the emissions you have created during your travel.

Sustainable Energy Yachts

Recently, many charter yacht companies have come up with the idea of making solar powered yachts with space age designs. This allows the yacht to be charged with a sustainable form of energy. Moreover, you can also make use of ‘Hybrid Yachts’ that use electric motors instead of gasoline so that its props recharge the batteries as they sail through the sea.

These are a few of the initiatives taken by several charter yacht companies to keep the sea and the surrounding atmosphere clean. It should be noted that the charterers are equally responsible for playing their part in reducing air and sea pollution and should not do anything that might pose a threat to any human or marine life.
