Sail the French Riviera and sample the
climate, beauty and sophistication that has made the Côte
d'Azur the choice location of sailors around the world.
Nice is a modern town which still embraces its long-standing
traditions. Activity is non-stop at two famous markets,
the colorful Cours Saleya with flowers, fruits, and vegetables,
and the lively fish market of Saint-François Square.
Don't miss the Iles d'Or, the "Golden Islands," home to
the unspoiled nature preserves of the Ile de Porquerolles
and Ile de Port-Cros. You will visit a host of incredible
anchorages, from trendy ports of call to unspoiled Mediterranean
paradises. One thing is for certain: Sailing the Côte
d'Azur will leave you with a lifetime of memories.
Day 1: Dine in the old town or in the
harbour of Nice. If you are really eager for leaving Nice,
the famous bay of Villefranche-sur-Mer offers a very pleasant
anchorage, protected from all winds except the south, which
is rare. Or if you have enough time, sail on to the Anse
du Lilong just after Cap Ferrat.
Day 2: Head East towards Monaco.
You can only berth inside the harbour of Fontvieille - West-side
of the "Rock" of Monaco - as Monaco harbour does not accept
yachts less than 20m. Monaco proposes several interesting
places to visit such as the Oceanographic Museum and the
Changing of the Guards in front of the Palace. The casino
in Monaco is an example of the "Chic" found on the French
Riviera.
Day 3: Stop over for lunch at St
Jean Cap Ferrat in one of its bays depending on
the wind direction : Anse de la Scaletta (Plage des fourmis),
Anse des Fosses or Anse de Lilong. From there, head towards
Antibes to overnight in Port Vauban harbour to enjoy the
beautiful old town.
Day 4: Sail West towards Cap d'Antibes. After a little sailing, stop for lunch on anchorage at Anse de la Garoupe or at the end of the Cap, Anse de l'argent faux (sheltered from the west wind). From there, sail in direction of the Îles de Lerins across Cannes. Île de Saint Marguerite, the largest, has nice creeks to explore as well as its fort and museum to visit. There is a lovely promenade on the Île de Saint Honorat with a 4thcentury monastery. Depending on the wind direction, moor safely between the two islands for the night, taking care to avoid any reefs that are to be found around these islands.
Day 5: Enjoy a good breakfast in front of the Îles de Lérins before taking your time sailing across the Golfe de la Napoule towards the nice harbour of La Napoule. Its castle on the edge of the harbour, nice nature walks on the hill above the harbour awaits you for a restful and refreshing stop.
Day 6: Cannes has two harbours. One is the old port that we suggest for its charm and its proximity to the old town and all the shops and restaurants. The other is Port Canto at the extreme east of the town and furthest from the centre. It is, however, near the casino and offers every convenience of a modern marina.
Day 7: Return to sea for one last sail before returning to Port Canto in Cannes to disembark.
