The temperature never varies and the sun shines everyday, all year long. There are no Hurricanes in Panama so you are free to visit at any time. However, there are two “seasons” in Panama and some people prefer to come in the “dry season” from mid-November through May when it doesn’t rain.
Water-based recreational activities can be better in the dry season, for example Caribbean diving and particular kinds of sport fishing and bird watching. In the so called “rainy season” or “green season” from June until December, most days there is a one to two hour tropical rain storm in the late afternoon. This is a regular occurrence and most activities can be planned around it.

PLANNING LATE SUMMER BONAIRE DIVING EXCURSION

News from the crew of DRUMBEAT 1 !!
For starters we…have purchased a new tender. It is an 18′ ft. Novurania with center console, VHF, shower, built in ice chests, large swim ladder, and a 90 HP Honda 4 stroke.
And even more interesting…. we are going to BONAIRE this summer! Every year we haul out in Virgin Gorda but this year we thought we’d do something different. We are inquiring about doing some chartering while we’re there.
The diving there is supposed to be spectacular! You just walk off the beach and within 50′ ft. you are in 100+ ft of water. From the marinas you can take the dinghy or rent a truck and drive to the numerous dive spots.
The chartering would be different though. Since the shore drops off so quickly there is no anchoring. We would have to stay at a marina every night and go out sailing during the day.
We have friends that have been there and they say there is a ton of things to do. It’s one of the premier kite surfing and windsurfing destinations. They have land sail buggys that you sail on the salt flats, and lots of mountain biking. You can also rent Harley Davidsons, and other cycles to tour the island. Lots of activity if desired.
Provisioning there is a bit tricky. The restraunts are supposed to be great as they have all their food shipped in by container out of Miami. The stores do not have this luxury. Therefore we have decided that since we would be docked at luxury resort marinas every night, the dinners would ALL be on shore….. while breakfasts and lunch will be served on the boat. This would all be at the clients expense.
The crew is still discussing the details to make this work. The dates they are looking at are mid August thru October. Call Charter Sailing Unlimited for more details if interested.

SPANISH VIRGIN ISLANDS BAREBOAT FLOTILLA
Horizon Yacht Charters will be offering a 7 night Flotilla in the Spanish Virgin Islands during the month of November 2009. The 7 night flotilla will depart from the British Virgin Islands with an experienced lead yacht embarking on a wonderful voyage through the Spanish Virgin Islands off the beautiful Eastern end of Puerto Rico. This cruise is ideal for sailors who want to ‘sail back in time’ discovering new and seldom visited sailing grounds. The flotilla will visit a variety of irresistible islands with crystal clear waters, and friendly locals.
Guests arrive at the Horizon Yacht Charters base in the BVI on Saturday October 31st, 2009 and sleep aboard their chosen vessel.
On Sunday the flotilla will depart with the group heading to Jost Van Dyke. On day 2 they will begin their trip to the Spanish Virgin Islands, covering Culebra, Vieques and La Cordillera to name but a few of the islands, arriving back in the BVI the following Sunday, November 8th, 2009.
One way trips, BVI to Spanish Virgin Islands are available at an additional cost, should guests wish to terminate their charter in Puerto Rico. Horizon Yacht Charters will arrange for a skipper to collect their yacht and return it to the BVI.
Charter Rates for SVI BAREBOAT FLOTILLA
You will be charged the Mid Season rates for the vessel of you choosing – so there is no change on the normal rate for that time of year. Also note that there will be a limited number of Single Cabins available aboard the lead vessel.

VIAGGIO accommodates 6 guests in 3 double air-conditioned en suite staterooms aboard this brand new, state of the art yacht. Each stateroom has an intercom system, so if you need breakfast in bed just call! Crew quarters are aft of the engine room and are separate from Guest Staterooms, privacy is therefore entirely possible.
The Captain and Chef will liaise with guests prior to charter to ensure the ‘what, where and how’, together with menus and meal selections plus any dietary requirements are all covered.
VIAGGIO also has some surprises onboard, she has been fitted with very powerful underwater lights from mid section and all the way around the aft end. This will light up the area underwater around the yacht and views of sea life at night will be astonishing!
Imagine sitting on the aft deck swim platform, glass in hand sipping gently, while viewing natures own show right there in front of you, now that’s special!
She has also been outfitted with 50 inch flat screen TV hooked to a sound system which will take your breath away. In fact the sound system throughout the yacht with IPOD docking stations will ensure that, if you wish to, this yacht will rock.
A full office suite is provided with, fax, phone and internet available onboard. This offers instant communication with the rest of the world should you need this.
VIAGGIO is powered up with over 3000 hp Caterpillar diesels, she is able to cruise at plus 20 knots to power you around the Islands. While primarily based British Virgin Islands, VIAGGIO is more than capable of going down island. Her onboard radar and state of the art Navigation systems are well up to the task of heading to your desired location.
So if for instance you were to say “Skipper, I would like to wake up in the morning approaching St. Barts…” This is entirely possible. VIAGGIO is able to expand your experiences and horizons, all you have to do is ask her.
Water toys, snorkel equipment etc. etc. etc. is all available, Crew will be asking you what you would like onboard. VIAGGIO comes with a large powerful center console rib dinghy.

Having been in the charter business for almost 20 years and traveling from the Northeast coast of the US through South America, guests can be confident he is sure to get them to all the right hot spots! He holds a 500 GT USCG license, is a PADI certified divemaster and has a passion for fishing. Once you meet this Captain you will see his priority is making sure guests walk away with great memories and the desire to come back again.
Kevin has a short list of regular local crew that he uses based on their availability for his chef and mate who he knows work well together as a team.
